It is one of the more popular and exciting Spanish cities, and attracts many tourists. As such, entering Alicante is quite an easy process.
By Air - Alicante El Altet International Airport is quite a busy airport, serviced by many international carriers. In fact, it has been called Europe's busiest airports. You can reach Alicante directly from places such as Frankfurt, Barcelona, London, Manchester, Madrid, Brussels, Warsaw and Paris, among many others. Visitors can also choose to take connecting flights from Madrid or Barcelona. These journeys take only about an hour.
The airport is located around ten kilometres away from the main city. You can take the bus to the city. It leaves every forty five minutes and makes stops at several locations, so be sure to ask the driver for directions if you are unsure. The bus follows a circular route to and from the airport. If you would like to take the train to your eventual destination, the bus can also drop you off at the train station. Taxis can also be found outside the arrivals hall. A trip to the city will take about half an hour and cost around €20. You should refuse to accept any price significantly higher than these. Visitors who have an international driving license can also consider renting a car. Several major car rental companies are located within the airport compound, and their prices are fairly reasonable, especially if you intend to travel around a lot.
By Train - If you are coming from Madrid, Sevilla or Barcelona, you can also make use of the train to reach Alicante. Trains are run by the company RENFE and will drop you off at Alicante Train Station, which is located in the city centre.
By Boat - If you are coming from Ibiza or Palma de Mallorca, you can also take a direct ferry to Alicante. Such ferries are have limited vacancy and are quite popular, so be sure to reserve tickets in advance.
By Bus - There is also a national bus service that you can take from Madrid or Barcelona. The bus ride will take five and seven hours respectively, and the end point will be the city centre. Such bus rides are a much less expensive, and interesting, way to travel.
